Sometimes, vinyl letters won't work on wall surfaces you'd want them to. You can't expect one to stick onto a rusty metallic surface of your car, at least not for long. The sooner you speed up to 40 MPH, don't be shock to find your lettering nowhere.
Stickers or decals made from vinyl won't stik to bare wood either. If you would insist putting it on, varnish or paint the wood first especially on the area where you are going to stick the graphic.
Surfaces that are greasy are obviously not a good place to put your vinyl lettering. Given the presence of the oil, don't ever expect the graphic to stick at all. You can get rid of the grease before sticking it out though.
Plus, there are kinds of plastic items that are not suitable for the standard glues. It would be hard for you to stick lettering on a....
